Bus

There are a number of different bus services available and these can sometimes be a cheap alternative to train travel:

YAKÔ (NIGHT) BUS: The bus stop is located at Morioka train station. At Tôkyô station it is at the Yaesu Exit. There is a bus that runs from Kamaishi through Senmaya to Tôkyô in seven hours for about \7,800. Departure is about 10:30 p.m. and arrives at Tôkyô station around 6:00 a.m. There is also a night bus from Miyako to Tôkyô and one from Morioka to Tôkyô. Other night buses leave from Sendai for Kanazawa City, Nîgata City and Nagoya City. Use the JR timetable for locations, prices and schedules. Buy tickets at "Green Windows", from travel agents, or phone Iwate Ken Kôtsû:

TEIKI KANKÔ BUS (sightseeing bus): Sometimes a good way to explore an area - Nôto Hantô, Okinawa, Sado Island, etc. Use the station information booth to buy tickets.
NIGHT BUS TOURS: Tôkyô, Kyôto, Ôsaka, etc. Use JNTO or JTB to get information. All include a general tour around the city, a dinner, and a taste of Japanese culture. Sunrise Tour Series: kabuki night tour in Tôkyô, Kyôto Special Night Tour. For private tour companies use JNTO
